Welcome to Medela’s public health Diabetes Type 2 Prevention Programme in Nigeria!

Type 2 DM is a growing health concern in Nigeria, with an estimated 5.5 million people currently living with the condition and many more at risk. The distribution is across ethnicities, ages, gender and socioeconomic status.

What is it? Type 2 DM is a life-long disease in which there is a problem in the way the body regulates and uses sugar (glucose) as fuel as such, there are high levels of sugar in the blood which may have followed the body’s cells resisting the normal effect of insulin (insulin resistance).

Find out if you’re at risk of developing type 2 DM by doing the following:

1. Know Your Risk by taking The Modified Medela Diabetic Risk Assessment Tool which is already validated for use in Nigeria to identify risk groups.

2. Taking up the offer of a free Medela Type 2 prevention programme to assess your risk of developing Type 2 Diabetes Melitus, cardiovascular disease and other conditions such as high blood pressure (available for those aged 18-75). If you are at risk, you may be eligible for referral to Medela Diabetes Prevention Programme by your Healthcare Provider, Private doctors, or healthcare setting where you are receiving treatment.
