Maternal in Nigeria

Maternal health refers to the health of women during pregnancy, childbirth and the postnatal period; and the expectation is that each of these stages should be a positive experience for every woman that ultimately should ensure that women and their babies reach their full potential for health and well-being.

At Medela Health, we are committed to addressing Maternal Health as a very important public health challenge through innovative, holistic evidence-based, culturally sensitive and community-led interventions. The promotion of maternal health and well-being ism intricately related to newborn and child health promotion and by extension the cornerstone of family well-being.

Recognising the current poor maternal health indices which is characterised by the unacceptably high maternal mortality ratio, we at Medela have launched the Medela Maternal, Newborn and Child Health Programme, a comprehensive initiative tailored to empower individuals, their families, social support groups and communities, and equip primary health care workers as well as health professionals to effectively address the maternal health needs in Nigeria through impactful interventions, solutions, thereby achieving the desired improvements in the national Maternal health indices.

This programme is designed to provide information on how best to address the existing gaps in the delivery of these key services relating to the promotion of Maternal Health in Nigeria, in partnership with healthcare organisations, NGOs, and government agencies concerned with addressing Maternal Health issues and priorities, such as: women's health during pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period; including access to family planning services, and women empowerment interventions.

Our work involves engaging in partnership and collaboration with communities as well as health care providers at the Local, State and National levels to ensure that those factors militating against the health and wellbeing of women in particular and limiting the attainment of the health-related sustainable development goals (SDGs) are addressed through practical evidence-based interventions alongside the provision of online educational and capacity-building resources to educate mothers on how best to protect their health and wellbeing and in the long run that of their children and families.
